I’ll be honest, in-home sessions weren’t always my favourite. They actually used to scare me!
But over time, they’ve quietly become the ones I love most.
There’s no pressure to be “on.” No packing bags, no settling babies in unfamiliar spaces, no rushing to make it all work within a tight window. Everyone starts calmer because they already are.
Parents move differently at home.
Babies settle easier.
Kids feel safe enough to be exactly who they are.
And that changes everything.
Your home doesn’t need to look a certain way. It doesn’t need styling or perfect light. It just needs to hold your real life – the couch where feeds happen, the bedroom where days start and end, the spaces that feel normal now but won’t always look the same.
These sessions aren’t about creating something new. They’re about noticing what already exists.
As I head into another in-home maternity and family session this weekend, I’m reminded why this approach matters so much. Because the most meaningful photos aren’t about perfection, they’re about comfort, connection and letting things unfold naturally.
They’re the ones you’ll come back to later and think, yes… that was us!
If you would like to document your own family in the comfort of your own home, feel free to reach out and chat. I’d love to document this season for you. You can reach me through the contact page on my website.
