Let me tell you something that nobody warns you about parenthood: one day, you’re going to forget exactly what their little voice sounded like right now.
Not that it happened, you’ll always remember that. But the specific details. The way they said “Mama.” The weight of them on your hip. The particular chaos of a Tuesday morning in your kitchen that felt so ordinary you never thought to mark it.
As a Sydney family photographer, I’ve spent years watching families live inside moments they don’t yet know they’ll treasure forever. And my entire job – the part I love most, is making sure they have something to hold onto when those details start to blur.
So many families put off booking a photographer because they’re waiting for the right time. When the kids are a little older. When they’ve lost the baby weight. When things are a bit less chaotic.
But here’s what I’ve learned: the chaos IS the season. The laundry pile in the background, the toddler who won’t sit still, the baby who only wants mum, that IS the story of your family right now. And it’s worth documenting.
Family photography in Sydney doesn’t have to mean stiff posed portraits in matching outfits (although we can absolutely do that if you love it!). It can mean a golden-hour wander with your kids running ahead. A lazy Sunday morning at home. A beach trip where nobody cooperated but everyone laughed!
There’s a reason the film photography aesthetic has had such a massive resurgence. Those warm, slightly faded, grain-touched images feel like memories. They feel like nostalgia, even when they’re brand new.
When I shoot families around Sydney; whether that’s at a favourite beach, a local park, or in the comfort of their own home, I’m always chasing that feeling. The light hitting just right. The kids doing something completely unrehearsed. The parents actually looking at each other instead of at the camera.
These are the photos you’ll print and put on your wall. These are the ones your kids will find one day and say “is that really us?” And yes – that really was you. Happy and tired and in love and fully living it!
I know it doesn’t always feel that way. Some days feel endless! Some days feel like survival mode. But I genuinely believe (and I say this as someone who is also in the thick of it!), that we’re living in the good old days right now. Even on the hard ones.
That’s why I want to help Sydney families photograph this season. Not the polished, Pinterest-perfect version of it. The real version. The one you’ll actually remember.
If you’ve been thinking about booking a family photographer in Sydney, this is your sign! You don’t need to wait until everything is perfect. You just need to show up as you are, and I’ll take care of the rest.
I’d love to photograph your family. Head to the contact page to get in touch and we’ll find a date that works for you. Sydney sessions are available year-round, and I genuinely cannot wait to meet your beautiful, chaotic, wonderful family!
